Alien Green: Hep Alien by KelBel Cosmetics

I . . . have no good introduction for you today. So: I'll just dive in!

This is Hep Alien by KelBel Cosmetics. My friend Google (and the item listing) tell me that this is a Gilmore Girls reference. Kelly from KelBel says: "The best band to come out of Stars Hollow, Hep Alien, now comes to you as a nail polish! It's the perfect color for touring Seventh Day Adventists churches with your band or just hanging out around your hometown. While a very traditional and strict mother may not approve of this nail polish, your supportive best friend and band mates will. Hep Alien is a mix of different greens that landed as a shimmery, bright spring green and if you look close enough, has a subtle hint of rose." I didn't see any hints of rose, but there is a gorgeous holo shimmer that was a complete surprise! Also, while a very spring-y color, I think I'd say it was a sage-type green.

Kelly ALSO says that this polish is stubborn, and refuses to take a good photo. I totally agree with that! This photo is not very color accurate (the first photo is closest), but you can see the lovely holographic shimmer that this polish has!

And more of the lovely holo shimmer. All three photos here show three coats of Hep Alien alone, with a coat of Out the Door on top. Taken in full sunshine. I had zero application issues with this polish. The first coat was slightly sheer, but I could have gotten away with two coats if I wanted. I'm a horrible three-coat whore though, so three it was :) While some holos tend to be "diluted" by topcoat, this one wasn't- probably because it isn't truly a holo. But as a holo lover, that sparkle was a great extra treat!

Just for giggles, I decided to layer this over another color, to see how it reacted. I chose Sinful Colors Exotic Green, seen above in two coats. This and the next photo were taken indoors, under "natural" light with no flash.

Two coats of Hep Alien over Sinful Exotic Green. I was kind of "meh" about this pair. The only real benefit to the layering was polish conservation, but I only saved one coat, so I don't think it was worth it. Exotic Green was too dark, and changed the color of Hep Alien too much. I liked it just fine on it's own, so that's how I'll keep wearing it.

  1. Thank you so much for the review! You did a great job of capturing the polish and I always forget about the holo glitter. Thanks again!
